Hello!
I'm Mickie,
a writer & surfer, & the owner of The Buzzed Word bookstore, natural wine store, & wine bar in Ocean City, Maryland.

I’m a lifelong writer, of many things. For publications, primarily essays and longform feature journalism, often for The Bitter Southerner; for fun, a monthly-ish newsletter, Wax On, about the practices of life through the lens of surfing and experiences in grief; a memoir based on the same is forthcoming.

I’ve worn many professional hats in my career. Previously, I was the Events Director for Guernica, where I also did interviews and book reviews. For 2 years, I co-hosted the New York writer's variety show, Same Page, at New York’s KGB Bar. And before The Buzzed Word was a store, it was a literary/wine event series in New York and elsewhere. For 10+ years, I was also a creative copywriter and editor for many brands.

I hold an MFA in Fiction from The New School, where I was a Creative Writing Fellow. I am also at work on a novel.

I spent 12 years in New York before moving back to my hometown of Ocean City, Maryland in 2020. You can find me pouring wine and championing books most days at my store, and surfing every moment I’m not. (And on the internet here.)
